I Can Handle This is a 17-page visual learning guide designed to help build problem-solving skills, confidence and everyday independence through practical real-life situations.
The guide introduces a simple 5-step problem-solving system: STOP → CHECK → OPTIONS → TRY → ASK. Instead of immediately giving someone the answer, it teaches how to pause, understand what has happened, explore different options, take action and recognise when support may be needed.
The guide works through 12 everyday problems, including transport not arriving, cancelled appointments, receiving the wrong order, getting lost, not understanding a letter or email, payment problems, someone not replying, an incorrect bill, running late, receiving the wrong item, not knowing who to contact and situations where something simply doesn't feel right.
Each scenario follows the same visual 5-step system, helping the problem-solving process become familiar and easier to use in other situations too.
There is also support for when problems feel overwhelming, along with a reusable problem-solving plan to help work through new problems independently.
Created with the Deaf community and visual learners in mind, information is presented using simple English, colour-coded steps, icons, examples and clear visual layouts to make problem-solving easier to understand and apply in everyday life.
The goal isn't to never need help. It's to build the skills and confidence to think “What happened? What are my options? What can I try?” and know when it is time to ask for support.
You’ll receive: 1 digital 17-page everyday problem-solving guide featuring the 5-step problem-solving system, 12 real-life scenarios and practical problem-solving tools.

Before You Ask for Help is a 10-page visual learning guide created to help build independence, problem-solving skills, confidence and self-advocacy in everyday life.
Rather than simply telling someone to “be independent”, this guide teaches practical ways to work through a problem, explore different options and recognise when it really is time to ask for support.
Inside, you’ll learn strategies such as Try 3 Before I Ask, how to make a good request for help, how to break a problem into smaller steps, prepare for appointments, find accessible alternatives to phone calls, manage everyday life admin and speak up for yourself when something isn’t working.
The guide also explores an important part of independence: asking for the right kind of support. Sometimes you may need someone to show you the first step, explain something differently or give you a clue, rather than doing the whole task for you.
Created with the Deaf community and visual learners in mind, information is presented using simple English, visual steps, examples, checklists, icons and practical strategies that can be used again in real-life situations.
The goal isn't to do everything alone. It’s to feel more confident knowing what you can try yourself, what your options are and when to ask for support.
You’ll receive: 1 digital 10-page practical independence learning guide.
